New federal data shows that the largest seizures of ammunition going from the U.S. into Mexico in fiscal year 2024 were at Arizona ports of entry.

The amount of ammunition and gun parts seized at Arizona ports of entry more than doubled in fiscal year 2024, which ended in September.

Most of Mexico’s gun violence is fueled by firearms and ammunition smuggled from the U.S.

The government of Mexico has sued five Arizona gun dealers, saying they “facilitate, aid, and abet trafficking” and are part of the small percentage of dealers that sell virtually all crime guns recovered in Mexico.

Over the last six years, officials seized nearly 800 firearms at Arizona ports.
