The Badger Closet at Tucson High Magnet School is a place where students can find an array of items from shoes, shirts and hygiene items, to caps and gowns for graduation.
Since its humble beginnings in a closet - literally - the program has expanded.
Now it's housed in a former theater lobby in the high school's campus northeast of downtown Tucson.
"Another thing we do is we provide community resources for students. We refer them to, if they want therapy, there's a program out there that they could benefit from. And one of those things is definitely getting them those survival needs," says counselor Annette Urbina.
"So the stuff they use, such as where to eat, make sure they're getting their basic necessities met."
Counselor Araceli Olivas says the facility is made possible thanks to donations from the community, staff and students, the Tucson High School Badger Foundation and others.
It also serves as an opportunity for students from the district's Transition from School to Work Program to get involved, since the group helps to organize, stock and operate the shop on campus.
"Some of our exceptional education students are gaining job skills. They collaborated with us to help create our vision," Olivas says.
"And they are the ones who operate alongside with social workers and interns. So now we have a more inclusive space."
The counselors say TUSD has four resource centers, and another location serves as a clothing bank.
