Senate Bill 1090 - Child Support

Senate Bill 1090 puts a federal requirement regarding child support and state support into Arizona law. Before October of 2009, anyone receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) were required to turn over child support payments they received so long as they were getting TANF. Even if the child support paid was from a previous balance. In October 2009, the federal government began requiring that people receiving TANF were required to pay the government any child support not including back child support before the family began receiving TANF. SB 1090 is sponsored by Tucson Senator Al Melvin(R), Tucson Representative Frank Antenori (R), and Tucson Representative Phil Lopes (D).

On February, 11, 2010, SB 1090 passed the full Senate on a 20-9-1 vote.
