The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board has three proposals for an adjusted calendar. All would affect the first and last day of classes next year, as well as the length of mid-semester breaks.
This year, classes in all TUSD schools began on the last day of July and will end May 21.
In all three options being considered, the start date will be pushed back into August and the last day of classes would move further to the end of May. A fourth proposal to start classes at the end of August and have them run into June was dropped from consideration.
Board members are also considering whether to extend Thanksgiving break from two days to a full week, and compensating by shortening either fall or spring breaks. This year, students get a full week off classes for both fall and spring recesses.
The board has said it will seek community input before it settles on the final academic calendar.
Students will have 180 days of classes regardless of which proposal the governing board opts for.
Two seats in the TUSD board are up for grabs in the general election, Nov. 4.
