Gov. Doug Ducey spent Wednesday in the Tucson area meeting with business leaders and touring the Mirror Lab at the University of Arizona.
After the tour, he defended the new state budget. He said critics are wrong when they claim the spending plan was rushed and put together in secret.
“We released that budget on Jan. 16, so it really had been out in the light of day for over seven weeks," Ducey said. "There was no one that provided an alternative plan, although we did get a lot of criticism.
“Once we had the votes and we had done the discussions and we had made certain that we protected public safety and child safety and K-12 education we made final decisions and we voted.”
The legislative version of the budget was made public March 4. It was passed Saturday morning following all-night floor sessions in the House and Senate.
