Listen to an interview with Hispanic Chamber President Lea Marquez Peterson:
The Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has released its first-ever Southern Arizona Hispanic Market Outlook.
The report outlines demographic information about the area's Hispanic Community, showing a population that tends to be younger than the local average, and totaling 37 percent of the population of Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.
The report also examined other detailed information about the population.
Some details include that Hispanics have 25 percent of the area's purchasing power, and are responsible for 18 percent of health care spending.
The report's section on small business ownership caught the attention of Hispanic Chamber President Lea Marquez-Peterson.
“I was also very happily surprised to see the percent increase [of small businesses owned by Hispanics in Southern Arizona]," said Marquez Peterson. "It was 34 percent in one year. In terms of growth in Hispanic small business ownership. That’s a dramatic increase.”
The report also breaks down media preferences, entertainment spending and voting habits.
