The Tucson Pride Parade returns to 4th Avenue Saturday and big change has come for the LGBT community since the last annual event.
Just days after the 2014 Pride Parade, an Arizona judge struck down the state’s ban on gay marriage and in June came the Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized gay marriage across the entire country.
April Moss, president of Tucson Pride, said the parade will be a celebration of equality and of community.
"Our Tucson community has always been one that’s been a lot more open and a lot more accepting."
Moss says usually about 1,500 people come out for the march, and this year’s event should be no different.
A number of special guests will be in attendance, including drag entertainer and parade Grand Marshal Tempest DuJour, and members of local boy scout troops who will be serve as the color guard.
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the corner of 4th Avenue and 2nd Street; the processional will head south to 8th Street and will be followed by an all-ages block party at Sky Bar.
