Listen:
El Niño is here. Monday's rainstorm was the first of as many as five storms that could move through, Southern Arizona this week, the National Weather Service said.
“I think that time has finally approached," National Weather Service Meteorologist Chris Rasmussen said. "The thing with El Niño is that one of the things we see typically is storm systems will push in from the west to the east and they move in a rapid fashion.”
Rasmussen said as many as five storm systems could follow the normal El Niño pattern and bring rain to Southern Arizona.
The first hit Monday, and an even wetter storm is expected to Friday.
Throughout the week, the valleys of Southern Arizona could get as much as 1.5 inches of rain. Elevations over 6,000 feet will see snow.
