Tucson's two biggest elected bodies will consider identical resolutions Tuesday to oppose construction of President Donald Trump's proposed border wall.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors will consider the resolution at its morning meeting, and the Tucson City Council at its evening meeting.
Sponsors of the proposal include City Councilwoman Regina Romero and Supervisor Richard ElĂas, both Democrats. In a press release from Romero's office, they said they expect to be joined at a Tuesday afternoon news conference to discuss the proposal by other elected officials, including the chairmen of the area's two tribal governments, the Tohono O'odham and the Pascua Yaqui.
"The billions of dollars needed for the proposed wall would be better spent for more pressing needs such as health care, education, affordable housing, upgrading crumbling and dangerous infrastructure," the proposed resolutions state.
