Drug overdose deaths have risen sharply in Arizona in recent years, driven largely by the opioid epidemic and easy access to heroin, and for those who are addicted, overdosing can be a frequent experience.
Jordan Dainey, 23, is in recovery from opioid addiction, and estimates she overdosed 3-4 times a week on pills for a couple months. She speaks about overdosing, and what it’s like to be mother who is addicted. Hear the second part of her interview, which she gave because she wanted to “reach out to somebody who has a similar story and maybe give them hope.”
"You don’t care about anything, you’ll steal from your family, you’ll lie to your family. You’ll give up on your kids, you’ll give up on yourself. You lose yourself 100 percent, and I think that’s the biggest part about heroin addiction is that you completely lose yourself, and it’s hard to find that person again until you get clean”
