The Pima County Board of Supervisors wants to find out whether you think it should add a sales tax to pay for road work.
There is already a county-wide sales tax to pay for new road work or adding more lanes to existing roads, and the supervisors are weighing a proposal to add another half-cent sales tax to pay to fix roads that are in bad shape.
Supervisor Steve Christy proposed the idea, and state law allows the board to add a half-cent sales tax, if the board unanimously supports the proposal. That's why the county is seeking feedback now on the idea.
A series of meetings are scheduled to gather comments, including the answers to these questions:
-
Should the supervisors add a half-cent sales tax for road repair throughout the county, including in cities and towns?
-
Should the supervisors consider using sales tax revenue to reduce property taxes?
-
Should the supervisors consider a temporary or permanent sales tax?
