University of Arizona students can learn how to land a prestigious scholarship this week.
The UA is hosting Fulbright Week. Fulbright awards help students fund individually designed research projects and English teaching assistantships in other countries.
The program is named for U. S. Senator J. William Fulbright, who created a plan in the 1940s to fund international exchange between students in the United States and those living overseas. The list of recipients includes sculptor Dale Chihuly and former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Frank Camp with the UA Office of Global Initiatives said the program offers fellowships for graduate students and young professionals aiming to do research, study or teach English in another country.
"It's a really unique opportunity for students and actually for faculty and administrators and staff to engage in a really immersive international experience," Camp said.
The Office of Global Initiatives, the UA Honors College and the Graduate College are arranging information meetings and one-on-one advising sessions for interested students.
The UA is one of the top producers of Fulbright scholars. Twelve Wildcats received awards for 2017-2018, putting the University among the top 45 in the country for Fulbright students.
