Gov. Doug Ducey issued a batch of new executive orders to fight the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday. One order requires nursing homes and other group homes to check everyone who enters the facility for COVID-19 symptoms. It also mandates that workers wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
The state health director, Dr. Cara Chris, says the order brings the state in line with new federal guidelines. "This order ensures that the staff at these facilities come to work healthy and they use PPE appropriately and that confirmed and potentially suspected cases are cohorted and isolated from other residents," Christ said.
The same executive order requires homes to offer a way for visitors to communicate with their loved ones electronically if they don't allow in-person visits.
In a separate order Tuesday, the governor ordered travelers who fly to Arizona from New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, to self-quarantine for 14 days.
